City Palace

Located within the deep-walled city, the City Palace was conceived and built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur. The palace served as his residing throne and still serves as residing premises of the royal family of Jaipur. The palace earlier got divided into two parts; one which contains a few courtyards and museums and the other where the royal family still resides.

City Palace is a building that has preserved the history of the city and is an icon of grandeur. Apart from being an architectural marvel, the palace is also home to a beautiful museum where you can check out many exciting facets of Rajput and Rajasthan history. Several edifices find a place in the City Palace, they are- Mubarak Mahal, Chandra Mahal, Sukh Nivas, Pritam Niwas Chowk, Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, The armory, Maharani Palace, Bhaggi Khana, and Govind Dev ji temple.

Visitors can tour City Palace from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm and then from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm for a night visit. Entry charges for the City Palace are Rs. 200 for Indian adults and Rs. 100 for children (5-12 yrs). Charges for night visits are different; Rs. 500 for Indian adults and Rs. 250 for children.

Hawa Mahal

Your tour to Jaipur remains incomplete without visiting the limelight of the city- Hawa Mahal. Also known as the “Palace of Winds”, it was built in 1799 as an extension of the Royal City Palace of Jaipur. The 953 honeycomb-shaped and beautifully carved windows allow the breeze to blow through the palace and make it a perfect summer palace.

The construction of the Hawa Mahal allowed the royal ladies to watch everyday street scenes and royal processions on the street without being seen. The Purdah system, strictly enforced at that time, ensured that Rajput royal ladies remained hidden from strangers and did not appear in any public area.

Built-in the form of Krishna’s crown, Hawa Mahal is the tallest building in the world without a foundation.

Opening hours of the Palace of Winds are from 9 am to 4:30 pm. The entrance fee to the same is INR 10 for Indian tourists and INR 50 for foreign tourists.

Amer Fort

Also called the Amber Fort, this palace is possibly the most iconic structure of Jaipur. This palace is a perfect example to suggest how Jaipur’s history is not restricted simply to the acts of valor by its kings and soldiers, but also extends to the benefaction of architecture and science, as reflected in the construction of this marvelous fort.

Cradled atop a hill, 11 km away from Jaipur lays the Amer Fort, clad in pink and yellow sandstone. In 2013, UNESCO declared the fort a World Heritage Site because of its unique history and cultural significance. The royal family had been residing here until Jai Singh II decided to move the capital to Jaipur and the City Palace was built. The Amer Fort through its large ramparts, several gateways, and paved paths overlooks the Maotha Lake in the town of Amer.

The entrance to the palace is from Suraj Pol (Sun Gate). The entry charges are Rs. 25 for Indian tourists and Rs. 200 for foreign travelers. Timings of the fort are from 9 am to 6 pm. While the light show timings are from 7:30 pm in English and 8 am in Hindi.

Albert Hall Museum

The oldest museum of the state is located in Jaipur and functions as the state museum. The Albert Hall Museum houses an extensive collection of artifacts from various regions of the world, categorizing them into sixteen large art galleries. It is home to some of the most interesting artifacts from the history of Rajasthan and the rule of Rajputs including pottery items, swords, weapons, etc.

This palace is one of the most beautiful places to visit on your Jaipur tour and is renowned for its architecture. Known for its somber collection of artifacts and a history as rich as the state itself, the Albert Hall Museum holds to be a treat to yearning eyes. The museum takes on a whole new facade after the sun sets and night falls, and the entire building glows with yellow lights, which looks stunning. This is honestly a great place to get a peek into history and even relax in the gardens with a stunning view of Albert Hall as the backdrop.

Entry timings for the museum are from 9 am to 5 pm and then afterward from 7 pm to 10 pm. Entry fees for the same are INR 300 per person for Indians and INR 1000 for foreign tourists.

Nahargarh Fort

The majestic realms of the Nahargarh Fort can enrapture anyone! Overlooking the gorgeous Pink City of Jaipur, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II built the magnificent Nahargarh Fort in 1734 as a retreat. This larger-than-life structure not only protects the city but also adds charm and richness to it. The palace has never come under attack from any forces during its history to date.

It was originally named ‘Sudarshan Fort’ and was later changed to Nahargarh, which means abode of tigers. Situated on the outskirts of Jaipur, this place is hugely famous for the breathtaking views of the whole city from here. Embellished with delicate carvings and stonework, the Nahargarh Fort Fort is an unassailable structure and together with its two neighboring forts- Amer and Jaigarh once stood as the strong defense of Jaipur city.

Another attraction in the Nahargarh Fort is the Nahargarh Biological Park, which is famous for its vast flora and fauna. You can expect to see over 285 species of birds there and also houses animals such as Asiatic lions, Bengal tigers, panthers, hyenas, wolves, deer, Himalayan black beer, sloth boar, etc.

Park remains open from 9 am to 5 pm on all weekdays except on Tuesdays. The entry fee for the same is INR 50 for Indian visitors and INR 300 for foreign tourists.
